Keeping Up With Social Media News

As the Social Media industry continues to grow into a bigger beast than it already is, the need for people to keep up to date with social media news becomes more & more important.  Since 2005, Mashable has been the top source for news in social & digital media, technology & web culture, but this month the brand took news gathering to the next level with the introduction of Mashable Follow.

At this stage Mashable Follow remains an invite only function within the main website; but don’t worry if you haven’t received an invite, you can register your interest & hope Mashable will respond (They sent me an invite within 24hours!)

For our business to grow & continue to offer our clients the best service available, keeping up to date with Social Media news & developments is essential, this is why I’m really excited about Mashable Follow & want to tell everyone a little bit more about its abilities.

First off you must register an account, this can be an email or even better a Facebook/Twitter account.  It’s important you register such accounts so that as a user you can make the most of the platforms sharing functions.  At this stage users also have the ability to connect their other social sites – Digg, LinkedIn, Foursquare & Goggle Buzz.  Once you’ve connected your social sites, you can then browse & follow various Topics & people, it’s these selections that determine the types of articles you receive in your Mashable feed,  so pick wisely!

Now you have your personal feed of relevant Social Media news you can continuously update the topics & users you follow in order to obtain the articles that suit you.  Mashable Follow definitely ticks all the boxes in terms of allowing me to gather & read the news articles that actually mean something to me. (Without having to scroll through irrelevant stories) The next ‘Golden Nugget’ for me is the new ‘Mashable Share’ button on every article.  Very similar to the original share buttons, this widget allows you to effortlessly share an article on any of your linked accounts.

Mashable Follow is very helpful in letting me choose the news that I want to read & making it very easy to then share these articles to my peers.  If you’re reading this & have yet to try this new function, I would register your interest straight away! While you wait for an invite watch this video so you can get up to speed.

I really look forward to seeing this platform progress as it’s rolled out to everyone.  If you’ve had a go using this new feature I’d love to hear your feedback.  For me it gets Top Marks!
